Training Overview : Road to World Masters Athletics Championships Malaga 2018 Update
Entries for World Masters Athletics Championships Malaga 2018 did not open mid to late February as anticipated by Australian Masters Athletics. First October 2017, then February 2018, now it's April. People are restless on WMA facebook page. What is going on. Article may give clues. "A new surface was laid at the University of Malaga in mondo. With the new pavement, the University is ready for the World Veteran Athletics Championships. The preparations continue: a delegation of World Masters Athletics led by its president, Stan Perkins, recently visited Malaga, where they met with the local organization, staff of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) and the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, to deal with various aspects of the eventI'm sure they will get it sorted by July when entries close. Direct Preparation Period 1: I have less than four weeks to my first major competitions. This week is 145km covered. Session yesterday was great. Form has been great. Not many sessions to go. Ten day taper begins 17th April.
Competition Period 1: `26th April to 29th April : Australian Masters Athletics Championships over consecutive days. Events 10000m, 1500m, 5000m and 8000m XC to finish off. I'll be aiming to win all four events as M55.
Preparation Period 2: 1st May to 30th June: High volume, long intervals, maximum threshold runs, power hills, some races.
Direct Preparation Period 2: 1st July to 12th August : High volume, target races, maximum threshold runs, long and short intervals. Target races will include Sutherland2Surf 11km Road on 22nd July, City2Surf 14km on 12th August plus 2-3 additional races in June and July.
13th August: Leave for France. Three week training, acclimatisation and taper camp in Paris. Ten day taper begins 30th August. It's very cold here in Canberra over winter.
3rd September: Leave for World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain.

Events 8000m XC 5th September, 10000m`road race 9th September, 5000m track 12th September,(either)1500m heat and final 15th and 16th September or Half Marathon 16th September.
Cross Country Course with start and finish in stadium. Hilly 4 x 2000m loops, some shade:
10000m Road and Half Marathon Road Course. Flat out and back approx 10km, start and finish near main stadium. No shade.
