Pre-dawn run Back to the Past 17km

Image
My body clock is accustomed to running at 4am now. No point tossing and turning. Last evening tidying up my old place, loading up the car for one last removalist drive back to the coast. This morning a run from the city to while away some time for the marsupials to get off the road and drive safely. I'm feeling a little 'Local Heroish' I miss the sound of the ocean.

Pre-Dawn 8km ; Stromlo XC Intervals 4 x 500m

Image
Very early morning run done under starlight before making a road trip to Canberra. Mid-morning a set of 4 x 500m strides at Stromlo XC Circuits, just before the rain.

Training and Racing Plan Update

Image
I'm a day away from completing my relocation to the coast from Canberra. Just in time to avoid the first minus degree mornings. Next big races on the horizon are Sutherland2Surf 11km in July and City2Surf 14km in August which are mass participation road races. Both include up hill and down hill running which is convenient, I've been training on hills since I got here. Neither have been conducted other than virtually since Covid until 2022. In between Parkrun events and possibly a couple of other races. I'm very happy with my running and training form. I'll begin to ramp up the intensity after this cold spell passes in a few days. Bingi Dreaming Track via Beach 18km

Image
Sunday morning run of 18km. I failed to find the dreaming track on my previous attempt, success today. Running surface mostly soft sand, starting with a dropping high tide. Return was via lake edge. The track traces the footsteps of the Yuin People along Bingi Dreaming track in Eurobodalla National Park. Along the beach I saw many footprints of small marsupials, possibly an antechinus. In the forested dunes behind the beach there were larger marsupials including kangaroo and wallaby. I wouldn't run here in warmer weather, risk of snakes.

Parkrun Coombs 1st 17:45

Image
Soggy run at Parkrun Coombs, rain overnight and throughout the run, very slippery, big puddles, debris on path. Led start to finish 17:45. Now a slow drive down to the coast to play with Milli the Border Collie

Stromlo XC Intervals 4 X 500m

Image
Late morning set of 4 X 500m strides at Stromlo XC. Circuits. I drove up from the coast in early morning, greeted by rain. Tomorrow Parkrun.

Beach Sand Intervals 13 X 250m

Image
Morning set of 13 X 250m beach intervals with <10 seconds recovery done shortly after low tide. Tiny secluded beach, firm sand, great for short intervals. Warm up 9km, 3.5 km set, 5km warm down. Friday 500m strides at Stromlo, Saturday Parkrun.

Hilly Loop 18km Inc 2km Tempo

Image
Pre-dawn run of 18km around the hills with a flatter 2km tempo run to finish off. I'm ready to resume intervals again. I'll begin with some short beach intervals at low tide today.

Hilly Loop 17km

Image
Back up to full training volume today after the half marathon. Still a couple of sore spots, only a couple of days away from intervals and tempo runs again. I'll fit 1-2 light sessions in before a solid Parkrun on Saturday.

Recovery Day Easy Runs 10km

Image
Some drizzle in the morning, left my runs for later in the day. I ran a few short runs (total 10km) with Milli the Border Collie to the beach and back at low tide. The water was running with a big swell, we chose some shelter from the waves. I should be ok to resume full volume tomorrow.

Canberra Runners Half Marathon 5th 78:24 1st M60+

Image
286 runners enjoyed a Perfect morning for a hilly half marathon around Lake Burley Griffin, 5th outright in 78:24, 1st M60+. I started conservatively, although never outside the top 10. By half way I was reeling in a few in front and continued the strong form to the end. Nobody passed me after the first kilometre. After the race a drive back home and a walk by the sea to loosen up. I'll have this week mostly as recovery runs.

Parkrun Coombs 1st 17:57

Image
Perfect weather at Parkrun Coombs. With a half marathon on Sunday I held back a little but not much after the first kilometre. Steve set a solid tempo in the early stages. I pushed hard on both sides of the major hill to get a gap and held to the end. 1st in 17:57. Steve ran 2nd in 18:20. My splits:(500m)1:48,1:51,1:43,1:42,1:43,(dead turn,1:52),1:48,1:42,(dead turn,1:49),1:42. Coffee after with Gabe and Helen who also ran at Coombs
