Image
Cloudy Grey Morning 18km run on all the beaches from home and return. A second run in the afternoon including a set of long hill intervals.

Not Parkrun Surf Beach 6km ; Not Parkrun Bar Beach 5km

Image
Early morning Not Parkrun 6km at Surf Beach, north end (solo) followed by another Not Parkrun 5km at Bar Beach with a local community running group. Around thirty of us there this morning. I finished the running with a dip in the water at Bar Beach. Water temperature 20 degrees celsius. In the afternoon a second run, 20km for the day.

Short Beach Intervals 30 x 100m Strides

Image
Morning set of 30 x 100m leg speed beach intervals on the same stretch of beach I used yesterday, completely deserted. None of the intervals flat out, just getting the legs moving at 5km race pace or better in praparation for Parkrun next weekend (some local Parkruns out this weekend due to recent rain). When I fully recover from Parkrun I'll resume structured interval training again. I still have 13 weeks until my next goal competition at Australian Masters Athletics Championships in Hobart Tasmania which commences on 29th March, concluding on 1st April. My first event will be a 10000m track event.

Short Beach Intervals : 14 x 500m

Image
Great running weather this morning for a solo set of 14 x 500m Beach Intervals to help prepare for Parkrun this weekend. I chose the south side of Surf Beach for the set having it all to myself with Golf Course pond water still open to the sea. Many of the ponds are dry now, marooned golf balls easy pickings for mud waders. After the session a 4km warm down with the dog. I'll do another run in the afternoon making 17km for the day.

Beach Run 19km

Image
More thunderstorms overnight, clearing before dawn to a blue sunny day. The storms may be back again this evening. The carnage from the storms continued to make the surf unsafe to swim in it although many will. The rain at Surf Beach opened up the Golf Course ponds to the sea with a couple of years of stagnant water and any chemicals in it to flow out. It stinks! Surf beach is cut in two again, as it was a couple of years ago. The run was to a couple of beaches away and return. The water was clear and smelt normal. I ran it as two out and back runs, dropping the dog off at home for my second run. All up 19km of running for the morning. I missed my short session today due to the conditions. I'll make up for it before Parkrun on Saturday if all goes well.

Beach Run 20km incl Bar Beach Dip

Image
Thuderstorms overnight, many lightning strikes close by, power outage, Christmas Dinner by Candle light. This morning a 20km run on all the beaches including a stop to drop the dog at home then onto Bar Beach for a quick dip. Water temperature 20 degrees, run by the Bay back home. At low tide a second run including 100 metre strides for leg speed. I pulled up well from Parkrun on the weekend gone. I expect to run again this Saturday and aim for an improved run closer to 17 minutes something.

Christmas Day Runs with Milli the Border Collie incl 2 x 1km Race Pace

Image
A Dull Grey Christmas Morning for the first of a couple of runs with Milli the Border Collie. There was some drizzle and rain about which we escaped by watching the Beyond Paradise Xmas Special on the BBC. After brunch a second run back down to the beach at low tide including 2 x 1km efforts at race pace. A couple of hours all up for the day.

Long Sunday Run 2hr 35min

Image
Early morning all terrain run of 2 hours 35 minutes from home and return. Being Christmas Eve absolutely nobody on the hilly golf course in early hours, I made the most of it running multiple laps. Later in the morning after coffee a second run on the beach at low tide with the dog.

Morning run through the golf course down to the beaches with Milli the Border Collie. On the return trip we me the bounding Beyonce the greyhound without her parent who turned up soon after. The run went to pot until we got out of sight again. I made the same run again an hour later hoping the beach would be clear by then. Training Update:  I plan to run my second Parkrun of this base training Block on Saturday. If I come through that OK I'll resume structured training in early January. The January block will help prepare for Australian Masters Athletics Championships to be held in Hobart, Tasmania in April.

Soggy All Terrain Run Racing Milli the Border Collie : Beach Fartlek

Image
Light rain in the morning, I got out there for a run racing Milli the Border Collie later than normal. No golfers on the course leaving us room to run on fresh cut grass to the beaches via forest trails. Nobody on the beach eithet except one surfer and a man walking a kelpie. Beaches were fast and firm at low tide. We ran a fast fartlek session wil efforts broken up with puddle stops. A longer run in the afternoon, 18km for the day.
