World Masters Games Auckland : M55-59 1500m 1st 4:38

Perfect weather today for 1500m events. 1st in M55-59 today. 2nd Vadim Ankudinov (Russia) 3rd Ian Calder (New Zealand). Fellow club mates were Alison Sims 5:54 2nd W30-34 and Robbie Costmeyer 5:34 2nd M70-74. The great John Walker presented medals

My race was slow through 300m (60-61) as I ran alongside Ian with Vadim behind Ian. There was no way of getting on the rails so I executed a 1200m kick down, getting faster each lap and full gas down the home straight. Rough splits were: 61(300m),76,73,66. I gapped Ian on the second lap and Vadim on the third, never letting him back onto my heels although he got very close with 400-200m to go. I had plenty left for the final 100m. Images from start, 340m, 760m, 1100m and finish

Next race 10000m on Thursday. If it's very windy I'll consider doing the 800m heat and final a couple of hours either side of the 10000m.

An easy recovery run of 11km tomorrow with a few 100m strides.
