Training Overview : Road to World Masters Athletics Championships Malaga 2018 Update

Word has it entries for World Masters Athletics Championships Malaga 2018 will open late February. I'm looking forward to that and finalise arrangements. All flights and hotels are booked. Training plan is settled. Not much to do but enter and train. Here's the plan so far.

Direct Preparation Period 1 `15th February to 25th March : ACT Masters Club Championships over several weeks. Events 10000m, 1500m, 800m, 5000m and 8000m XC handicap at Stromlo to finish off. Training continues after club championships. Ten day taper begins 17th April.

Competition Period 1 `26th April to 29th April : Australian Masters Athletics Championships over consecutive days. Events 10000m, 1500m, 5000m and 8000m XC to finish off.

Preparation Period 2 1st May to 30th June: High volume, long intervals, maximum threshold runs, power hills, some races.

Direct Preparation Period 2 1st July to 12th August : High volume, target races, maximum threshold runs, long and short intervals. Target races will include Sutherland2Surf 11km Road 22nd July, City2Surf 14km 12th August plus 2-3 additional races in June and July.

13th August: Leave for France. Three week training, acclimatisation and taper camp in Paris. Ten day taper begins 30th August.

3rd September: Leave for World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain.

Competition Period 2 `5th September to 16th September : World Masters Athletics Championships.

Events 8000m XC 5th September, 10000m`road race 9th September, 5000m track 12th September,(either)1500m heat and final 15th and 16th September or Half Marathon 16th September.

Cross Country Course with start and finish in stadium. Hilly 4 x 2000m loops, some shade:



10000m Road and Half Marathon Road Course. Flat out and back approx 10km, start and finish near main stadium. No shade.
