Australian Masters Athletics Championships Day 1 : 10000m Track Results 1st M60+ 36:47

The Men 60+ 10000m track started immediately after the women 10000m. It was sunny, hot and a light breeeze. I went to the front, started slow, increased the pace until I was solo. When I had a 200m lead I started going to the drink station for water on the head every lap. I could watch our race unfold by looking across the track. If the gap got to within 150 metres I either sped up or missed a drink stop until I had a 200m lead again. A few laps into the race there was only one person left chasing (Paul Woodhouse,2nd) with the pack disintegrating. Aside the need for water and ice at the finish I pulled up OK. Nothing sore. Yassine my friend won M70+. The younger male race started after ours finished. Some looked strong, others suffering. Results and Photos soon. Tomorrow morning 1500m track. Splits(500m)1:53,1:48,1:45,1:46,1:46,1:47,1:48,1:48,1:50,1:51,1:52,1:51,1:48,1:52,1:49,1:50,1:50,1:51,1:52,1:49).

Thanks for the reports from the Championships Bruce. Congrats on your results. The 5000 was very close!
Thanks Ewen, I really did enjoy having some great tussles in these championships. I'd love to do more track racing next summer.
