Australian Masters Athletics Championships Day 1

Women 10000m:
1st Stacey van Dueren 39+ W50 : 2nd KT 1st W45 41+ : 3rd Caroline Davis 2nd W45 41+ (15m behind kt, exciting last lap) : Our Kelley 2nd W50 (one lap+ down on kt).

The conditions: Started nice, getting hotter and windier during the race.

Men 35+ 10000m: 1st sb 33:48 M50 : 2nd outright Steven Quirk M50 36:34

The conditions: Started hot, sunny and windy getting worse during the race. Sun and wind the major factor, helping dehydrate everyone

Of me: Felt great until about 6km (33:20 pace exact and having lapped everyone in the field). Tried to lift the pace and only succeeded in digging a big hole for myself. Lost 28 seconds in the next 4km. Visited the water station on 3 of the last 5 laps. Very happy with the time and how I ran the race.

Hopefully no niggles appear overnight. Really looking forward to the 1500m tmoz in much cooler although still windy conditions. Maybe a shower or two.

800m: Heidi W40 2:33 ; Helen W50 3rd 2:53 ; Maria W55 2nd 2:47 ; Kathy W60 1st 2:51 (with sore ribs...ask Geoff) ; Mick M50 Strong run, Scott Lawrence 2nd after a smart race

Conditions: Cloudy, warm, gale force winds at times

Well done Sbx - sounds like you completely dominated the race, losing only 18 seconds in the last 4kms in those conditions is awesome my friend...Good luck in the 1500m tomorrow, show them a really clean pair of heels mate :-)

Well Done Bruce, shame the wind robbed you a CBP. Good luck with the other races.
Thanx David, I was happy, shame the injury kept you away from here. Looks like all the best male and female 10k runners are in the 50's now
