Gold Coast Half Marathon 2nd M55 74:23

Cool conditions and dark for the start of the race. In the field were M55 David Sweeney and M50 Monna. I started near Monna and trailed him for a couple of kilometres early on. I didn't see David until around 8km in, he was by my guess 60 seconds in front and having a super first 10km. At the same time I saw a pack of ten runners coming up behind me. I waited for a few seconds and slipped to the back of the bunch for a breather. That bunch largely stayed together for the remainder of the race.

At 12km I decided to go off the front and get the better ones to work with me. A few came forward, a couple came back. We really made no headway on the bunch. I was having foot issues from 13km on, the same foot I've had issues with for a few years but in a different place. It only cost me 4 seconds on a few occassions and I was still moving at the same pace as the bunch, just 10-15 seconds adrift. My foot went again with 500m to go, I just had to suffer to the finish. In the end it was a good result, on par with the other 2 runs I've had on the course.

David Sweeney had a very solid 73:13 1st M55. Monna was 1st M50 in 75:08. Splits for the three of us below. lso posted are splits from my watch. I didn't see all the markers.

My watch splits (foot issues at 13,16,17 and 21st km): 2km 6:51, 6km 13:53/20:45, 8km 7:07/27:52, 9km 3:29/31:21, 10km 3:28/34:50, 12km 6:57/41:48, 13km 3:38/45:26, 14km 3:34/49:00, 15km 3:32/52:32, 16km 3:38/56:11,17km 3:41/59:53,18km 3:33/63:26,19km 3:33/67:00,20km 3:32/70:32,21.1km 3:52/74:23
