Happy New Year 17km Forest Trails Run ; Recap 2020 ; Preview 2021

On 30th December I hit 141km for the week. I ran only a hilly 3km with Milli the Border Collie on New Years eve to pull the volume back down as a precaution. New Years day started with running Milli up and down Mt Painter before heading out on my own through the forest, mostly on single track. Weather cool, cloudy, light winds.

Saturday morning will be a set at Parkrun Burley Griffin an hour before the start of 2000m,1500m,1000m,500m with 1 minute recovery. I will do a second lap of the course as a normal Parkrun with the masses but as a recovery run. Sunday morning a hilly half marathon. There will be rain and storms about on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday morning likely 4 x 800m set with 200m jog recovery, subject to weather improving.

Recap of 2020. We had fire, smoke hail and Covid to deal with. Parkrun stopped along with all racing except for virtual events until late August. I had 5 consecutive months (February to June) of 120km+/week average which coincided with my best form for 2020, all done in virtual events or time trials. 1500m 4:32,5000m 16:31, 10000m 33:57 the highlights. July to September training was patchy with some hard weeks but a monthly average under 100km/week. October to December I started structured training and racing again with high volume. December monthly average/week was 121km+, my highest since June.

2021 will hopefully allow Australian Masters Athletics Championships to be held in March and in Canberra. Only yesterday NSW was cut off from most states due to Covid. There is no Covid in some states, none in Canberra. I'll continue to train for a peak in the AMA Championships with high volume, hard sessions and racing followed by a taper. Here's hoping!
