World Masters Athletics Championships : 8000m M50, W50 Cross Country Results and Images

The weather warm to hot (depending if the sun was out), plenty of heat stress (Minnie, one Australian M55 in hospital) with both the lap and finish drink stations overloaded with work.

Australian placing results prior to M35-55: Lavinia 1st W70, Jim 2nd M70, Anne 2nd W60, Angela 2nd W50. There may be some I missed.

M35-55s: Pace was super quick, less than 3:00/km for the leaders (fastest time oáll 24:57). Almost impossible to pass and hold position on the rough and technical sections, easy to lose ground stuck in traffic. On the fast sections just run flat out. A fast start was very important and there was a rush for positions. I have video for the top 3 in M50. These are the splits at the water stop after: 300m: 1.Anders, 2.Michael 2s, 3.Me 3s ; 1 lap: 1.Anders, 2.Michael 1s, 3.Me 9s ; 2 laps: 1.Michael, 2.Anders 3s, 3.Me 28s ; 3 laps: 1.Michael, 2.Anders 8s ,3.Me 41s and finish: 1.Michael, 2.Anders 19s, 4.Me 58s and 4.Mansour 1:35...however Georges was leading at 300m and 2000m (with Anders and Michael)in M50, 11 seconds ahead of me at 3700m, I passed him at 4700m (I paused, negative thought 'sit on him', positive thought prevailed 'pass him fast') and he then stopped soon after.

I was in touch with Michael after 1km, unable to hold his pace. I never saw Anders. I never saw 4th place. I was on my limit the entire race. Not being able to get water on the 3rd and 4th laps didn't cost me any time although it did make me very heat distressed at the finish. Happy with the time, happy with a medal. I can relax until my next race on Friday.
